HLG Announces 2016 Anthony B. Ramirez Premio Esperanza Award Winner

The winner of the 2016 Anthony B. Ramirez Premio Esperanza (Hope Award) is Father Richard Vogt, S.J.  He is also known as “Padre Ricardo.”

Father Vogt is a deserving winner of the Anthony B. Ramirez Premio Esperanza for 2016.

Fr. Vogt was born in St. Louis in 1932.  In 1950 he entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuit order) in Florissant, Mo.  In 1963, he was ordained in Mexico City.  He taught Spanish in Jesuit high schools for 20 years.  He taught English in Mexico for about three years. He studied one year in Spain. He has done pastoral work with the Hispanic communities of Kansas City, Chicago, and St. Louis for some 25 years. Currently he serves in St. Louis at Casa de Salud. He also directs Jesuit retreats in Spanish and ministers to Hispanic prisoners at local jails and prisons.

The Anthony B. Ramirez Premio Esperanza was established by The Hispanic Leaders Group of Greater St. Louis (HLG) in 2003 under the initiative of Anthony B. Ramirez.  Initially named Premio Esperanza, its name was changed in 2010 in posthumous honor of Anthony B. Ramirez, founder of HLG and creator of the award. The award’s inscriptions read as follows: “To you, for giving hope…To those seeking change.”

The award will be presented during a special event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Missouri Athletic Club, 405 Washington Ave., St. Louis, MO 63102.
